Meltdown

Apparently Microsoft still does not recognize AVG as being compliant - I have not been able to download the "Meltdown" protection as of Jan 5, 2018, nor have I seen any activity by AVG that indicates the proper registry keys have been set.

As this is my first posting, I am not sure of the process. Will AVG notify me of the fix or will I have to log into this page again to check for a solution?

Hello Roy,

Please be informed that AVG 2017 is compatible with the Windows patch and we protect against the malware that can take advantage of the security hole.

That's not even an answer. I tried updating my avg and there is still no patch. If you can't actually answer, please spare us the spin. thank you. I think it's time to buy a better antivirus because avg is not working out anymore. what a joke.

Hello Casey,
I'm sorry for any inconvenience caused. May I know what exactly happens when you tried to update AVG or when you tried to download Meltdown protection. Is there any error message, if yes then share a screenshot of the error message to assist you further. Because AVG 2017 is compatible with the new Windows patch "Meltdown protection" so there should not be an issue updating AVG or downloading Meltdown protection.
Best regards,
Alok.

Apparently AVG is NOT downloading the registery entry because as of 7 Jan 18 it still was not installed on my computer. I am running Windows 7 but that should not make any difference. I had to install it myself.

Hi Guys,

As we disguised already,  AVG 2017 is compatible and to ensure your AVG Antivirus software is up to date refer this article https://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?l=en&urlName=AVG-Meltdown-Spectre-vulnerabilities.

Ok listen, I also have this problem. It is up to date I can assure you. I have un-installed and reinstalled. It STILL does not create the registry key that microsoft requires.

THERE
IS
SOMETHING
WRONG.

We are on Wisnows 7 SP1 machines and are lacking the registry key in KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\QualityCompat as required by microsoft in order to get the update.

Please escalate this to someone who can actually help because every thread I read in these support forums is the same canned response. The message I am getting is that I cannot trust AVG to protect my computer if it can't even address a problem with its installer.

D Marra,
I certainly understand this must be upsetting. Please try to disable AVG protection (right click on AVG system tray icon and toggle O/Off slider to disable protection) and then try to manually check for Windows update.

Right-click the Windows Start button and select Settings from the menu that appears.
Click Update & security.
Ensure the Windows Update tab is selected on the left side menu, then click Check for updates.
Click Restart now after installing all available updates.
