system tray

I run WinXP SP3. As/of 10/19/2016 the AVG icon is missing from the system tray. The processes are running as per "task manager" so I assume AVG is running. My AVG version is 16.121.7859.

How do I get icon back in system tray?

Hello John,
We are sorry to know that. We are aware of this issue and working on a fix. We suggest you to update AVG again and restart the computer. After restart, please check if you are able to see the AVG icon. If the issue persists, please let us know and we will assist you further.
Thank you.
A PersonA Person
Today, October 21st, this same thing happened to me. The AVG system tray icon sometimes decides to hide itself but that's predominantly an XP problem so I put up with it. However, when the icon does disappear, I still expect to find it by clicking the << so to find it completely missing was very disconcerting! My first thought was to trigger the tray icon by clicking on the program in my Start Menu, only to find there's no trace of it there either. Now I'm very worried!

I immediately did a search for likely causes/fixes and one of them led me here. I'm glad to see it's being looked into but I hope that whoever manages to fix it will tell us what went wrong and why. Thanks to John Burke for mentioning Task Manager as I hadn't looked there yet, even though it's usually my goto solution when I have a problem, just to see if there's any unrecognized processes running.

I am now satisfied that AVG (version 16.111.7797) is still running (according to the TM) and I'm satisfied it hasn't been uninstalled (because I see the files in Windows Explorer). However, it still takes far too long to complete a scan (anything up to 18 hours now for what should take less than an hour) and I'm sick to death of the UI making it look like I have a problem when in fact all they want me to do is choose the paid version and/or buy upgrades. I would hate to be a new user these days - the only (certainly the main) thing you want an anti-virus program to tell you is whether or not you have a virus so presenting the user with ambiguous messages does not help at all. So please take note AVG: if my system is secure, don't mark the UI in red!! And please stop sending popups that make me think I've got a problem when all you want is my money (see pics).

The only reason I chose this version of your program is because it's free but you're making it so that it's less bother to get a virus!

Hello,
We do understand how difficult this is for you. Please do not worry, eventhough the AVG icon is not displayed in system tray your computer will be protected.
