AVG will not close in my task manager

I have AVG Free 2014. During the last update something happened and now the AVG User Interface will not close. I had to disable it in Startup but it still shows up as running. It's not taking any of my CPU but it is taking memory and I cannot close it for the life of me. What should I do?

Hi Ashton,
It cannot be closed because of AVG Self Protection.
Thanks

Ashton, Have a look @ this article (https://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=How-to-repair-AVG).

I did that already. I actually did a full uninstall of AVG then reinstalled it and repaired it after reinstalling it. It's still there, just beyond the pale. Mocking me, tormenting me with its presence. It's more of an annoyance than a hinderance really.

The trouble starts when I actually open AVG. If it isn't opened there is no issue. But, once it is opened and the avgui.exe has been activated, it stays open until I either restart or shut down my PC. I've tried clicking on it and choosing End Task, that doesn't work. The uninstall didn't do anything, I even deleted all the remaining files after uninstalling to get a clean slate. It's always there though. In my Task Manager it has a dropdown menu from AVG User Interface. The dropdown menu displays a blank program that consistently takes up around 6mb. It doesn't do much else, but it stays there until, like I said, my computer is either retarted or shut down completely.

Hi Ashton,

This is really strange. I'd like to ask you for AVG log files for closer analysis. Specialists will contact you on your e-mail after analysis.

Thanks,

Jan

Hi Ashton,
You can't close AVG User Interface or just process avgui.exe?
If just process it is correct behavior it is displaying Tray icon.
Thanks

it's probably that then. One question; why does it show up as a blank process? It doesn't have a name nor does it allow me to close it via End Task.

Oh okay. I won't turn that off since it seems important (I'll Google if it is or not). Thank you for your patience. I'm glad this was resolved.
