AVG WebShield blocks all DNS lookups

Like many others, it seems, a recent AVG Free update is blocking all DNS lookups (cannot even "ping" a URL from the command line although the same site can be accessed OK using its IP address). If I switch off WebShield, everything immediately works normally. If I switch it back on, it is immediately broken again. Having searched all the previous replies I have tried the AVG removal and clean tools and reinstalled twice with no improvement. I have also tried "netsh winsock reset". What should I try next?  Windows 7 32 bit). AVG Free 18.7.3069.

Thank you for waiting, Alan.

We would like to understand more about the situation.

If you turn off Web Shield, everything works fine but let us know its status when you disable fake website shield.

Open AVG Internet Security -> Menu -> Settings -> Components -> Fake Website Shield -> disable it temporarily.

Have you tried to add those Urls in exception list?

Please add those sites to the exception list on both Web Shield and Fake Website Shield.

Open AVG Internet Security -> Menu -> Settings -> Components ->Web Shield /  Fake Website Shield -> Customize -> Exception -> add sites.

Let us know if you face this issue for all domains or any particular one. Could you share the screenshots
http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=How-to-create-a-screenshot and samples to have better understanding?

Have you changes your DNS settings to public google DNS?

Sorry, forgot to say that this affects all domains and does seem to be a DNS issue as it affects even "PING" from the command prompt.

Hi Ranjani, thanks for responding. I do not seem to have "Fake Website Shield". Please see my first screenshot. I tried adding a site (http ands https) to "Exceptions" in WebShiled but it did not help (see second sceenshot). I have tried Google DNS, no improvement.

I'll just add that I have a second PC on my network with almost identical configuration (OS, AVG FREE, DNS etc etc) and it works fine.

Spoke too soon, both PCS now want to update! Should I proceed?
Alan HallAlan Hall
Oops sorry, was going to add the above PC which works perfectly is also now saying it is out of date.

The PC with the problem is
18.7.3069 Build 18.7.4041.0  and does not say it is out of date.

UI 1.0.131 on both PCs

So there is a small difference, Should I allow th eother PC to update?

Yes Alan, Please update the AVG to latest virus data base and check the status. If the update option is shown on the main user interface, you can continue the update from here. if not, you can open AVG->Menu->settings->Update. Please try updating both Program and Virus definition update and keep us informed about the status.
Alan HallAlan Hall
Priyanga,
Thank you. Both PCs have now updated and have identical AVG configurations as follows:
AVG 18.8.3071 (build 18.8.4084.0)
UI 1.0.134
Virus defs181119-2

The problem is unchanged - one PC still has no functioning DNS lookup (in a browser or even command-line PING) unless I disable WebShield.
