ytd.exe detected as malware

Hi
This morning (presumably as a result of definition updates), AVG Free Resident began repeatedly detecting "ytd.exe" as a trojan (malsign.generic.09e). ytd.exe is executed when I open YouTube Downloader. I downloaded the installation files from the correct parent site and prevented any toolbars etc being installed during the installation process. I ran an AVG and MalwareBytes scan on the installation file before installing. Before this morning, "ytd.exe" did not get detected by AVG. It has never been and still isn't detected by MalwareBytes. Is this a false positive?

Hi Rod, we apologize for the inconvenience caused. I kindly request you to have a look at this article http://avgread.me/18WB2dg to exclude the program from the Exception list. We also request you to report false detection in AVG ( http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=How-to-report-a-false-incorrect-detection ). Please feel free to contact us back for further assistance. Thank you.

This happened to me as well.

The question remains, is YTD an actual threat?  I got multiple malsign.generic.09e alerts.  Also when I went looking for a new installation, AVG (Paid version in my case) alerted on the entire CNET download site.  I know that YTD comes with bits of 'baggage' and I've been careful not to install any 'extras' .  In the past I would run scans after every YTD update and get rid of a 'PUP' or two.   This is a whole new level of worry.

This has affected me only as of today as well.  Have been usin YTD without incidenct for several years. I have followed the points above to place YTD as an exception but with the folder I download it to, as wlel as the .exe file but AVG still kills it on any attempt to install it.  Obviously I've had to disable AVG while I install it again & will try yet again to add the installed program as an exception.

If the tool HAS become a threat, then can we have more details as to the nature of the threat from AVG please?  Also a more effective way to add it to the exceptions list please?

Hello Rod, Boris and Dave, Sorry for the inconvenience caused. This issue has already been raised by few of our customers and the exceptions got worked. This is due to one of the update of our program. Please submit us the sample of the detection via http://avgread.me/1GgMyPc .
1) Please disable your AVG program temporarily by following the instructions mentioned in this link: http://avgread.me/1GnMD3N .
2) Then download and install the YTD downloader.
3) Re enable your AVG program again
4) Please follow the instructions mentioned in this link: http://avgread.me/18WB2dg .
NOTE: Please make sure that you add the entire folder of the YTD where it is installed.
If the issue persists please do let us know. Thank you.

I was about to open YTD to download a YouTube video but my newly installed AVG Free 2015 (from your official AVG website) perceived ytd.exe file a threat and removed it. It also removed the whole YTD file from my computer. I downloaded again YTD (from official site) and AVG detected MalSign.generic.1CO as potential threat.  I looked for a solution online on how I can use YTD again and followed the instructions from https://support.avg.com/answers?id=906b0000000DLTdAAO and downloaded YTD and re-installed it. Is this an issue with AVG or an issue with YTD? Please reply. Thanks!
