AVG Tuneup won't update

I click on "check for updates" and the wizard starts to download; then I get a failure message that says:  "Make sure that a connection to the Internet is established and that the communication from AVG Update Wizard is not blocked, e.g. by a firewall."

Then it says click okay to check my internet connection.  After I click okay brings up a page that says "select your internet connection".  The only option I can select is the first one -- permanent connection to the internet; it does let me enter a proxy server but I have a direct connection to the internet and I am connected to the internet via a LAN.  Should I be using proxy settings; if so what are they

I forgot to mention that I disabled the AVG Internet Security 2015 firewall and it didn't make any difference.

Please disregard.  I use Firefox; but I opened IE and clicked on settings; under LAN I checked automatically detect LAN.  Then I tried again to run the AVG wizard and this time it worked.

I don't know if that was what actually fixed it but it worked

Hello Carol. Glad to know that you were able to update the AVG PC TuneUp program. Yes if the update doesn't work need to do some changes in the Internet Explorer settings. You have got that right. Thank you for posting back. Please feel free to contact us again should you need any further assistance.

I think I found out what the problem is; when the tech rep was doing the clean up, he noticed that I had an inauthentic version of Driver Update; so he removed it and then downloaded it again from the products listed in my account.  I noticed today that Driver Update was missing again; I also noticed that when I tried to download it again from My Products, Malware Bytes blocked it saying that it had blocked a potentially unwanted program.  It seems that the link in My Products is "bogus"; what Malware said it blocked was:  PUP.Optional.DriverUpdate.A.  It has quarantined all the sub files as well.  If I remove these, then when I restart the computer, it partially disables Email Scanner in AVG Internet Security 2015.  The breakdown is:  C:\Users\Carol\AppData\Local\SlimWare Utilities Inc.\Driver Update\

There are 26 of these PUP files/folders quarantined.  Everytime I would clicked on the link in My Products, and tried to download it, Malware Bytes would block it.  So I went to "other products" and downloaded it from there and it was okay; but I'm afraid to delete the quarantined files from Malware Bytes for fear that it will disable my Email Scanner.

Is there any way to remove the link under My Products"; it would appear that this may be how I got a bogus Driver Update in the first place.

One of the files is:  C:\Users\Carp;\Dpwm;pads\AVG_Dup_stb_all_2012_22.exe

Been having exactly the same problem for ages.I have followed the advice on the website to uninstall PC TuneUp and reinstall the latest version 15.0.1001.604 but still the problem persists.
Now I can't even seem to contact AVG via their support form as it always insists some fields are not completed (I'm using Firefox too). Very frustrated, would love an email.

Fished around in Firefox looking for a similar setting to IE mentioned by Carol above.
Under Options/Advanced/Network/Connection/Settings changed proxy settings to 'auto detect', and this seems to have fixed the problem. Why this would do so I don't understand. As my system is currently up to date, having reinstalled, will need to wait until a new release to know for sure.

Hello Carol. I have escalated this to our technical team. They will communicate and assist you regarding this. Thank you.

Hi Carol,

PUP stands for Potentially Unwanted Program - meaning they are not harmful but some users don't find them useful. I'd recommend disabling or uninstalling the Malwarebytes as usage of more anti virus programs at the same time is generally not recommended. Once Malwarebytes are disabled, please repair the AVG installation avgclick.me/RepairAVG and also download the AVG Driver Updater (the installation file in the My Account and in download center is the same one).

Please let me know the results.

Thanks
