Security settings prevent opening email attachment

I have received an email with an attachment. When I try to open the attachment I get a message "Your security settings do not allow this file to be downloaded."
The sender is known to me.
What do I need to do?

Hello James. Thank you for providing the information. I would request you to try the instructions mentioned in this article http://bit.ly/1GnMD3N to temporarily disable the AVG program and then try to open your email attachments.

May I know what kind of attachment or file is it? I believe it is not an issue with AVG as you are unable to download the file even after disabling AVG. Please have a look at this Microsoft support article http://bit.ly/1SQuwYs .
