Hello, Recently and suddenly AVG has been popping up messages informing me it has changed my firewall mode to "Public" and gives me a button to click if I want to change the mode. Clicking said button loads a fairly corrupt UI page with text stating Security Firewall ERROR. The notice occurs randomly and frequently. The notice said it just found my (usual/normal) WiFi router network and has its mode to public. Has anyone else seen this behavior? Windows 7, AVG ver 19.2.3079 (build 19.2.4186.405), virus def 190208-4.
Manually changing the mode has no effect, regardless of how it is set (public/private). I still get the notices. VERY annoying.
It also now appears that the auto virus AND manual virus updates have stopped working. I tried to update them manually last night...still hadn't connected over 8 hours later.
This isn't the expected behavior. Could you provide the screenshot of AVG Firewall "Network Profiles" window here? Click on "Menu-->About" from AVG Internet Security program interface and provide the screenshot of version info here. You can post the screenshot here in your topic. Click on 'Answer' & then click on the 'Image' [mountain symbol] & follow the instructions.
You're not the only one having this issue. There are several other post about this, each without a fix. Mine started doing this as soon as I updated to 19.1.3075 build 19.1.4142.454. I see by your version it still has not been fixed. I am hesitant about doing updates due to issues arising after an update.
Robert, we realize the situation. We will definitely help you to resolve the issue. Please update your program once and check the status. Keep us informed here.
My concern was not actually that the definitions didn't update, it was the fact that the firewall was "apparently" changing modes on it's own. The deal here is that while it told me it had changed, the profile page was not, actually, changed. Just the annoying popup all the time, and the corrupt UI page. I am not using the freebie version, and it has been working (auto-updating) just fine for a long time.
After finally getting the anti virus files to update, things seemed to be back to normal. But I noticed that in the settings/components the green sliders (on/off) are gone, and so is the filewall compontent! It's not listed. See screen shot:
Then, I got the dreaded firewall mode change popup. Clicked the "CHANGE MODE" button andgot this mangled screen:
Steve, it looks like there is some issue with the program. Click on "Menu-->About" of AVG Internet Security program and provide the version information here.
The clean failed because it needs more than 2GB to run. Uninstalled usin the control panel, and was sucessfull. Lost internet, but was able to get it back. Downloaded the ultimate install files. Had to remove stuff I wanted to make room for it to run, but it did finally run and install. Looks OK at this point, but now I've got a bunch of work to reconfigure the firewall. Ugh. Too much hassle.
We realize the situation. Let's configure AVG Firewall settings as per the recommendations. - Please open AVG Internet Security icon - Click Menu - Click Settings - Click Components - Scroll down to Firewall - Click Customize. - Enable the "Internet connection sharing mode" and "Allow all connections with Friends when in Private mode" - Click on System Rules - Enable the "Allow File and Printer sharing" and "Allow remote desktop connections to this computer" - Click OK to confirm it. Please make sure that all the tasks are enabled. - Click on "Network profiles" - Change all the Networks to "Private" - Click OK to confirm it. Monitor the status and keep us posted here.
I'm good. I put everything back in place immediately. I'm having some issue now getting my phone to connect to it, but I'll figure it out eventually. Really not happy that an uninstall using your tools requires >2GB of free disk space. (Oddly, uninstall from the control panel worked just fine. Just saying.) Honestly, your stuff has become bloatware. When I first started using AVG, it was a small, well working, antivirus. Now it's fat, annoying and cumbersome. Just like this method of communication. And your chat thing. Time to find something new, I think.
Hello Steve, We realize the situation and sorry for the inconvenience caused. We would like to inform you that this is the unexpected behavior as AVG Clear tools only requires around 11-20 MB of space. May I ask you what exactly happens when you try to connect your phone with your PC?
It's just a login failure. It fails to authenticate. It started about the time the firewall started acting up. IDK why, but I assume it's getting bounced. It all works everywhere else, so I just need to tweak it.
BTW, it was one of your people that told me your removal tool needed at least 2GB to work. With 1.86GB of available disk space, it failed to complete it's operations.
Steve, it is not possible for our technician to provide such information. May I ask when did you contact us regarding this? Could you provide the screenshot of the message that you received while running AVG Clear tool?
In a chat conversation. Ref Case number 08072720. I did not take screen shots. The pop up said Installer Failure. The reason given was insufficient disk space. I questioned this because I had ~1.8Gb free. He said it required at least 2GB. I had to kill the tool. I told your guy I was going to use the control panel uninstall. He said I should, so I did. It worked. BTW, per your website instructions, I ran both tools, one to remove older versions (which took a long time, but completed without errors) and the clear tool, which failed to complete and was manually terminated. In the end, I was able to reinstall AVG ultimate without incident, but only after freeing up (read that as deleting things I really wanted to keep) more disk space to be over 2GB free.
Honestly, I think we're done here. I'd rather not continue this further in a public forum. You have my email address. Reply to me with an address that I can reply to rather than your "noreply" account and I'll respond. Otherwise, *end transmission*.
Thank you for the detailed information. Sorry for the information provided by our chat technician. The disk space required for AVG Ultimate installation is 1.5GB. However, for running AVG Clear tool it shouldn't show such message. If you provide the screenshot of the message appeared for AVG clear tool, we will be able to check and confirm.
I'm runing exactly on the same issue, my network profile is public and it does not allow me to change it to private, I'm using thetering with my cell phone, is it normal? thanks in advance kind regards,
