I have been away for 2 days, and I returned this morning (May 11 2018) to find my Internet Security had updated and a restart was needed. After the restart I went in to AVG IS to make sure I could still do a daily scheduled scan, as the last big update seemed to disable this facility. Sure enough, there does not seem to be a route through the tabs to schedule a scan ( I have been doing it daily at midday for months with no problem. If the scheduled scan as was is no longer available, is there a facility to run scan on boot-up? The guide on the Help > Scan Options > Schedule an Automatic Scan still says "
Click Schedule Scan.
On the Scan Parameters screen, create a name for your scan and specify which areas and file types to scan. You can use the tabs on the left panel to configure other scan settings. Read more...
Select the Scheduling tab from the left panel.
Tick Schedule this scan and specify if you want the scan to run on just one occasion (Once) or periodically (Daily, Weekly, or Monthly).
Manage your preferences for the following options:
Do not start the scan if running on batteries: tick to ignore schedule settings if your PC is not connected to a power source.
Pause the scan if batteries mode begins: tick to pause the scan if your PC is removed from its power source during the scan.
Wake up the system to start the scan (if in sleep mode): tick to run the scheduled scan even if your PC is in power-saving mode.
Shut down the system after the scan finishes: tick to automatically turn off your PC after the scan.
Set the time that you want the scan to run in 24-hour format (for example, instead of 3pm use 15:00).
Specify the day that you want the scan to run.
Click OK."
There is no obvious button to click to 'Schedule Scan' as above. Any help/advice on daily or boot-time scans would be most welcome. Thanks Mike
Thank you for being patient, Mike. This has been confirmed as a bug but we have a temporary solution to retrieve your files:
1) Uninstall your existing AVG Internet Security 18.4 version as mentioned (here). 2) Restart your PC. 3) Install 18.3 version using this offline link (x64): https://share.avg.com/steam/PSP/AVG2017/18-3-avg_internet_security_setup_offline.exe 4) Run the file and on welcome screen, click on "Custom Installation" and check the box that says "Data Safe". 5) Proceed and complete the installation. 6) Post installation, open AVG Internet Security interface, click on "Privacy" and create "New Data Safe". 7) You should be able to see your old saved AVG data safe files in "Documents". 8) Access those files and take a backup of it. 9) Once this is achieved, you can update to the latest 18.4 version by clicking on "Menu-->Settings-->Update" from Internet Security interface. Feel free to contact us if you need further help.
Hello Mike, I understand the inconvenience caused, let's work together to fix this issue. In this case, I request you to repair AVG Protection (http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=How-to-repair-AVG) at first and reboot your computer once. After reboot, please check if you can find the Schedule/boot-time scan option. If the issue still persists, then please share a screenshot of the AVG Protection > Menu > about page to assist you further. You can post the screenshot here on your topic. Click on 'Answer' & then click on the 'Image' [mountain symbol] & follow the instructions. Best regards, Alok.
Hi Alok, below is a screen shot of AVG about page:
Also, the front screen is missing the 'gearwheel' next to the 'Scan Computer' button that I used to use to access scan scheduler facility. If I click on the 'document/magnifying glass' part of that button, I get a blank screen, rather than the message that used to say 'Scan Complete/done':
Hi Alok, I ran all your recommendations, and I now have AVG Internet Security running almost as well as it did before. i can now schedule scans etc., but I have uncovered a more immediate concern: the Datasafe facility, which I was using in the previous version, seems to have changed, in that it no longer exists being replaced by Sensitive Data Shield; the Datasafe file, which I created in the previous version has gained a avgfv suffix during the upgrade, meaning that I can no longer access the sensitive files I had stored in the Datasafe, as AVG IS does not let me access to enter my password for it, and Windows does not have an app to enable opening of avgfv. Can we have the Datasafe access/password button back, please/
Mike, With the latest version 18.4, we do not have an option to open Data safe directly. However, customers who had created Data Safe with previous versions will have the option to access files from “privacy -> Sensitive data shield - > Please review your files”.
Hi Balasubramanian, My query about the lack of access to my Datasafe file was based on my experience with Sensitive data shield. On clicking on the Sensitive data shield button, i saw that there was a 'scan' button, so I clicked on it. Sure enough, the scan picked up some files that it regarded as 'sensitive', but it did not pick up my Datasafe file (formerly designated :E drive). When I click on the Datasafe file,as I used to be able to do and have the opportuniyt to enter my password, I am told that I do not have an App to open it. The information/files I assigned to Datasafe on your (AVG) recommendation in the previousversion is of the type that is important to me, mostly containing IDs and passwords to insurance, banking and investment accounts I hold, so it is imperative I retrieve this information. Please make this facility available to me, or allow me to give remote access to one of your technicians to enable them to recover the information for me. Thank you. Mike
Hi Balasubramanian, just wondering if you have been able to make any progress? I was thinking, if, hopefully, the code that supervised the password handling and Datasafe file opening in the previous version was still available, whether it could be set up as a downloadable application, and therefore enable those of us users that set up our information in Datasafe files, to access those files. Hopefully Mike.

Hi Balasubramanian, I have re-installed the 18.3 version, as suggested, and yes! I can now access my Datasafe files again! Thank you. The curious thing was, that when I ran the update to 18.4, the Datasafe button is back, replacing the Sensitive Data Shield button. Curiouser and curiouser! Anyway, all is now working as it was, again, both scheduled scan and Datasafe! Thank you for your help! Mike.

However, I can see the gear symbol near to the Scan computer button here in the latest version of AVG Internet Security. Before escalating this case to our senior team, I request you to reinstall AVG Internet Security using AVG Clear/AVG Remover tool.
Please follow the instruction (http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=How-to-troubleshoot-issues-after-upgrade-to-the-latest-AVG-antivirus-product) to run AVG Remover tool and AVG Clear tool.
After the computer reboots, you can follow the instruction to download/install/activate AVG Internet Security.
Note: you have to use license option to activate your AVG Internet Security.
Best regards,
Alok.

I understand the situation.
