virus scans failed

Important email attachments are regularly being blocked. I have tried to set Exceptions but still the scan is run automatically and the download is rejected. I have now set Passive mode and yet still scans are automatically run and the same message "couldn't download - virus scan failed" appears. I am about to dump AVG - unless there is a quick remedy.

Hi David.
We regret the inconvenience caused. We'd be glad to help. Are you using AVG AntiVirus free on your PC?
Could you share a screenshot (https://bit.ly/30ptlLh) of the error message you are receiving?

Hi Avinash, I tried to respond to your email but with a "no reply" address that has failed. I have taken a screen shot but can't attach it to this message. I use the free AVG virus scan but when I look at the message telling me an attachment could not be downloaded because the virus scan failed there'sa tiny blue logo I don't recognise. If I can attach it by some means you will likely know what it is.

Sarath: thanks for your help here. The virus scan process now seems to be blocking most attachments, even from regular reliable sources, and now refusing to open even attachments that have previously been opened. The attached image is typical. Regards, David

Appreciate your efforts in sharing us the screenshot, David. Would you be so kind to check & ensure that there are no other antivirus installed on your computer?
David AllabyDavid Allaby
Dinesh: Thanks. There has been a BT/McAfee package sitting passively in the background - as far as I  and AVG Tune-up are aware, not active. That is now sitting in the Recycling BIn but I have not noticed any difference since it's been in the Bin.
