FTP

I am trying to update my sat nav which I have previously been abale to do however the process is now failing. The sat nav support seems to suggest that it is a problem with FTP access as opposed to HTTP.
Somewhere/somehow it would appear that my AVG Internet Security software is blocking access to FTP. Can anybody help, PLEASE

Hi, not quite sure how to do a screen shot but I am not sure how helpful it would be anyway. Basically I was asked to download a program (by the sat nav support team) that would carryout a map update onto my sat nav. That went ok. However, when it came to downloading the maps using this program it fails telling me that either I don't have an internet connection (which I clearly have otherwise the previous process wouldn't have worked), the firewall is blocking access or a particular server (which is the satnav suppliers server is not active (and which by all accounts is working). on contacting them, they tell me that the first process of downloading the software would have used HTTP but the map download uses FTP. This is my problem as I don't know where to look to change the FTP setting. As I said before, this process used to work but somehow it has got changed either accidentally or by some other process.

Hello M F wall,
Well, it is kind of hard for us to identify the exact issue that you face with the information you have provided. It would be helpful if you could send us a screenshot of the issue that you face for better understanding.
Thank you.

Hello M F wall.
Thanks for being so specific and precise. Please turn of your AVG temporarily and check if you still face the same issue.
You can disable AVG from the Advanced settings:

Open the AVG Program.
On the Options menu, click Advanced settings.
Select Temporarily disable AVG protection in the menu on the left side.
Click the Temporarily disable AVG protection button.
Choose how long you want the protection to be disabled and whether to disable the Firewall as well, and then click OK.

Thank you.

Oh, that hasn't worked, the problem still exists.
Does that suggest that it's not AVG that is at fault but that the problem is within Windows?
Not sure where to look although I have been 'poking' around the 'network connections' window but haven't found anything that is obviously wrong.
Are you able to suggest anything?
Mike

M F wall, from what you have mentioned it seems link there is something wrong with your operating system. I request you to contact Microsoft and report this so that they would provide you the required fix for it.
Thank you.

Hi, can you advise how I go about contacting Microsoft on this problem please. As they don't support XP anymore are they likely to respond?
thanks, Mike
