Recent update of AVG has caused my printer to stop working

Last Thursday, 19th March 2015 my printer worked fine. On Friday, when I tried to print something the printer took the paper then – nothing. I then spent the rest of Friday and Saturday trying to resolve the problem, uninstalling and reinstalling the printer driver and software and various other trouble shooting tactics until eventually, quite by chance, I sent something to the printer when my AVG virus checker was temporarily disabled and it worked. When my AVG virus checker was again enabled the printer did not work so a recent update of AVG must be causing my printer problems.  I have now discovered the same complaint reported several times on this Forum so I am adding my problem. I hope AVG will rectify this problem with haste. I cannot keep turning the virus checker off to enable printing.  I am using Windows 8.1.  I am not using the AVG Firewall. Is this issue being addressed?

Hi all,

We are really sorry to hear this is happening on your systems. We have prepared the hotfix which will be released as an update soon.

However you can follow below mentioned steps to fix it now.

1. Disable the AVG Self Protection (AVG -> F8 -> AVG Self Protection -> uncheck "Enable AVG Self Protection" -> OK)
2. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Drivers
- Show hidden files and folders if you can't se this folder http://avgclick.me/DisplayHidden
3. Replace the relevant driver on the system
- 32bit (avgwfpx.sys) -
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/13011391/AV-6987/avgwfpx.zip
- 64bit (avgwfpa.sys) -
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/13011391/AV-6987/avgwfpa.zip
4. Restart your computer and try it.

J, Would suggest you click on this link (http://www.avg.com/filedir/util/AVG_SysInfo.exe). Please download, install and run the file. It will collect your system information and please send the output to AVG. You will get the onscreen instructions for this. AVG technical team will analyze this and get back to you soon. Please feel free to contact AVG should you need any further assistance.

I have exactly the same problem (wth a wireless Samsung C460 printer). This issue needs urgent attention - I have done the Sys Info link. Please fix this issue AVG!!!!!!

Sorry, but this is not useful as I am using the free version of AVG which does not include the firewall!

I also run 2 Samsung printers with the same problem (Even after today's update). Let's skip the useless answers and fix the issue AVG! There are numerous people complaining about this new problem that surfaced with the last week.

I have the same issue on 2 PCs trying to print to a HP Laserjet CP1515n, also the Windowws XPS printer seems to have stopped working at the same time. I have restiored my PCs back to before the update and everything works, the AVG update is then applied and printing stops. When will this be fixed? if not soon then I will unistall the AVG product

The fix provided by Jan worked for me but please note :-
1.  The links to download the files for the 32bit and 64bit systems are the wrong way round.
and
2. After rebooting my computer I needed to again Enable AVG Self Protection (AVG -> F8 -> AVG Self Protection -> check "Enable AVG Self Protection" -> OK)

I don't seem to have managed to solve this yet - I desperataly need my printer and I can't use it because of tonight when it failed just after AVG updated my PC

Hi Penny,

This looks like different issue. Could you please share as many details as possible about the issue with us? What printer do you have? Is it connected to the computer over network or USB? Is there any error message displayed? Screenshot http://avgclick.me/createascreenshot of the error message would be appreciated.
