I am currently getting an 'AVG AntiVirus FREE needs to be updated' message popping up when I log onto my computer. It then says 'Automatically update for improved protectionA. and it invites you to 'update now'. Is this message genuine?? Why is it not automatically updating? Why do I have to tell it to update? I am just a little wary of this - looks genuine. Before clicking 'update now' I thought I would just check my AVG program it says I am protected, protection up to date. So what do I do - update now from the message or not?
Hello Linda. If you are using the AVG free version the program would popup to upgrade to newer version and if you click on upgrade the trial version of AVG Internet Security will get installed and it will be valid only for 30 days. Please have a look at that popup again and see whether you have update or upgrade. It will easier if you attach the screenshot to this thread. Please follow the instructions mentioned in this link: http://avgread.me/1aZxsAV to create a screenshot and attach the image to this thread. Thank you.
I am getting the same kind of pop up message, and when it happens again iw ill also post a screen shot. I did click on upgrade and then it asks you for your server details? of which i dont know, click apply and it updates but then says ERROR could not update. Not sure what this is about? Linda Reynolds
Busy installing, it seems to be doing it correctly, the last time it asked for server details? has not done that up to now, so i assume this is correct?
Hi Linda, I really appreciate your efforts and patience. AVG is updated now and you can enjoy protection. Please do not hesitate to get back to us for further assistance. Thank you.
The question has yet to be answered as to why the installed software says it is up to date yet this pop up message appears saying the opposite; that AVG needs to be updated.
Hello Mitch, The answer for your question is, This popup occurs for the customers those who use AVG Free antivirus and it will display as update now and when you download and install it you can find the Basic protection and advanced protection which is the AVG Internet Security but if you choose the AVG Internet Security only the trial version will get it installed. It is our business campaign and it cannot be stopped. The ultimate aim of this campaign is to know about the trial version of AVG Internet Security and if the customers installed the trial version and if they are happy they could go ahead in purchasing the license for it. Thank you.
