Is this a GENUINE AVG pop-up?

On a few occasions recently, I have had a pop-up from AVG that I haven't seen before and is quite worrying.

It says, basically that people can see what I am doing online.  There is also a box which says 'Hide me' which I am supposed to click on, presumably to solve the issue.

My question to you is, since I have AVG Internet Security installed, how could it be possible  that people can see what I am doing online?  Secondly, do you recognise this pop-up as genuinely belonging to you at AVG?

Linda, For info have a look @ this AVG webpage (http://www.avg.com/ww-en/hma-pro-vpn).

Hello Linda,
Thank you for contacting us with your concerns. We would like to inform you that is a legitimate campaign pop up from AVG regarding HMA VPN Pro program. A VPN (virtual private network) is a service that encrypts your Internet connection and hides your location to give you total online privacy.

Our trusted sidekicks at HideMyAss.com have simplified this technology, once used by only large corporations, into a one-click app that anyone can use. You can visit this webpage http://www.avg.com/ww-en/hma-pro-vpn to know more about the product.

With AVG Internet Security, you are covered from being hacked and with HMA VPN, you can mask your IP address without which your online activities are safer.

Ok thanks Avinash for your anwer and explanation.

From what you have ecplained, i assume that i don't need to take any action i.e. it is an optional program to have.

Hello Linda,
Yes, you are absolutely correct. This is an optional program. You can ignore this, if you are not using the same.
Thank you.

Linda, Correct it is optional but from the Avinash (AVG Technologies) explanation you would quite obviously be a safer user.

Hello Alan,

I have read thru the link you gave on VPN.  It says 'Try it for FREE'................... but does that mean for a certain length of time, after which i would have to pay for it or is it FREE for as long as i would want to have it?

Hello Linda,
Please be informed that you will be provided with the trial version after which you have to pay for the program inorder to continue with your subscription.
Thank you.

I want to share with you some experiences with Avast! anti-virus (that’s not you, I know). At one occasion below right on the screen shoves a pop-up on the screen, with a loud Ping! and stayed half a second there and disappeared again. It did so three or four times after one another, very nervously. It REALLY wants me to click there! Another occasion a pop-up appeared above right and it did not disappear which was very annoying. I was programming in HTML (only simple things, I don’t really master programming) and used several pop-ups there. The Avast!-pop-up  appeared in EVERY of my pop-ups and none of them disappeared again. It was very annoying!  At another occasion one year earlier (too long to explain) it was clear Avast! itself had been hacked.  It is very easy to create fake pop-ups. Of course there are genuine pop-ups but there are fake pop-ups too! This can happen to AVG too. I cannot distinguish between genuine pop-ups and fake pop-ups.

Hello Bert,
Thank you so much for reporting this to us. Could you share a screenshot of the pop up to check and assist you further, may I know if you're using AVG Free Antivirus for your computer protection now and also let me know if you have reported this to Avast Support separately. You can post the screenshot here on your topic. Click on 'Answer' & then click on the 'Image' [mountain symbol] & follow the instructions.
Best regards,
Alok.

I had the same issue as Linda Moreno but I pay  £2.39 a month for 2 years which is great. However, I haven't been offered a trial. Bit worrying as I don't want to give out bank details unless I know this is genuine.

Hello Chelsea,

We will check the pop-up for you.

Share the screenshot http://avgclick.me/getscreenshot of the pop-up you receive from AVG to assist further.
