Windows 7 Playing up - Checksur.log entries relating to AVG

Hi

My PC has been playing up and I've done deep scans with AVG Free and it is showing as clear. When I was doing one of my reboots, AVG came up and said something was trying to stop AVG from starting and asked for confirmation on starting. I'm a fair way down the SFC and MSID track. My Checksur.log shows 12 entries as errors and they all seem to be related to AVG:-

Has anybody come across anything similar?

I'm just about to try a CHKDSK /f to see if that will help. If not then I'll go to a Repair Install for Windows 7.

Cheers, thanks for any help/info.

Hello Victor,

I understand your concern.
I request you to uninstall the "Visual Redistribulate" file of Microsoft from control panel.
Please follow the steps a mentioned in this article: http://avgread.me/1DEtNP0 to get into control panel "Uninstall Program" window.
When you are in the window please check for "Visual Redistribulate" and uninstall the files that you see in this name.
NOTE: Please do not install other Microsoft files.
Once it is uninstalled please use this link: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=53840 to download the VC++ Microsoft file and run it. Complete the process by following onscreen instruction.
Reboot your PC and keep us informed about the status.

Hello Balasubramanian

Thanks for the reply. I followed the instructions and rebooted but my problems are still there. Everything works when I boot the system but eventually programs, etc stop working. Things like the Sound Controller, Thunderbird and other programs won't start, Administrator CMD.EXE won't start, areas of the Control Panel aren't available, etc. Mty restore points from the last two years have disappeared. I think something has got in, looking through I can see one of my sons has tried to install Free WIFI, I've scanned the files with AVG and others but they report clean. Will go back to Safe Mode with Networking and re-run sfc and dism. Will let you know what happens.

Cheers

Hello Again

Just tried running SFCFIX and DISM again. Same 12 files are still showing up.

Hi Victor,
I apologize for the delay.
Your patience and cooperation is much appreciated.
I suggest you to reinstall your AVG Anti Virus by following the steps provided in this article http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=How-to-troubleshoot-issues-after-upgrade-to-the-latest-AVG-antivirus-product and run a Boot Time Scan.

If that doesn't resolve the issue, please Repair your Windows Operating System and check if that fixes the issue.

Sarath Priyan - and whats wrong with this post? It describe exectly the issue I am having. What is the point of having multiple posts about the same issue?
Balasubramanian SBalasubramanian S (Avast)
Hi Ray,

The reason we asked to create your own post, is to provide additional support, if necessary.
We request you to boot your computer into safe mode as mentioned in this article and delete AVG PC TuneUp and AVG Web TuneUp folders from C:\Program Data and C:\Program Files and C:\Program Files x86.
Restart the computer and it should boot into normal mode.
Once it is done, get into programs and features and double click on "AVG Web TuneUp" entry. It would ask you permission to remove its name from the list as it was already removed.
Click on Yes and you should not see its entry.
Keep us posted.
